Still today, this North-South divide applies not only to politics but also to cultural products whereby the dissemination of cultural stereotypes is sustained. The TV-series Game of Thrones is a good example, with the stout peoples of Winterfell offering a contrast to the decadent, depraved, and incestuous rule in Kings Landing. It is important to recognise that these stereotypes have real social and political impact, even if they are founded in myths, as Bo Stråth notes. In the following, we will first present the myths as they have appeared in literary texts and history books and then move on to consider their representation in the visual arts before finally connecting it with imagology.
